Pediatrician at the University of Rochester. Served as an ACCLPP voting member and chaired the Review of Evidence for Effects at BLLs <10 µg/dL Work Group that contributed to the 2005 ACCLPP guidelines. Also co-authored the Educational Interventions for Caregivers chapter in the 2002 ACCLPP case management guidelines.
The Union of Concerned Scientists documented that Weitzman was removed from ACCLPP by HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson's office, as part of broader political interference with federal advisory committees — during the period when TLC's results were being incorporated into national policy.
Not a TLC investigator. As chair of the work group reviewing low-level lead effects, he was positioned at a consequential policy intersection — the question of whether harm occurs below the then-action level of 10 µg/dL.
